How far should a ground rod stick out of the ground?

The National Electrical Code (NEC) requires all driven rods to be a minimum of eight feet in the earth and for multiple connected

rods a minimum spacing of six feet between rods.

Ground rods should also stick out of the ground by approximately 4–6 inches.
