Why are grounding wires not insulated?

Answer

Ground wires are not insulated because they are used for safety purposes and are connected to the earth in an electric circuit.

Ground wires do not carry any current in normal conditions.

According to the NEC, ground wires have to be bare, and if you choose to insulate it, it has to be either green-yellow or green colored.
